Safety and Health Officer (SHO) is a position in industry required by Malaysian law.
Employer who fails to employ a Safety and Health Officer can be prosecuted in court and can result in a fine/imprisonment.
Duties of SHO are outlined in the law includes; inspecting the workplace, conducting investigations, monitoring and analyzing safety and health performance in the workplace.

In a recent statement (July
9, 2020) by the Minister of Human Resources, he stressed the need for an
increase in the number of Safety and Health Officers.
In line with the development
of the country’s industry, we needs more professionals who are able to advise
the employers to manage their occupational risk and practice healthy and safe
operation at workplaces.
Under section 29 (4) of
the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994, the safety and health officer
shall possess such qualifications or have received training prescribed by the
Minister from time to time by notification in the Gazette.

by the Ministry of Human Resources to conduct SHO Certification training
program; Reff number JKKP IS 127/438/3-85(6).
